The Best Restaurants in West Hartford, CT
Dinner and lunch ideas in West Hartford
Prior to changing careers to photography I was a chef. I went to culinary school and worked in various fine dining and Michelin-starred restaurants here in the US and Europe. Although I love photography more than anything, cooking is still a massive passion for me. We’re incredibly lucky to have many world-class restaurants here in West Hartford, representing multiple cuisines and cultures. It is really special.
Most of these restaurants are located in downtown, as you’ll surely see by how many are on Farmington avenue, haha! So you could definitely take an afternoon and an evening and try out many places in the same day.
Here are my favorite restaurants in West Hartford in no particular order.
Treva
Cuisine: Italian
Address: 980 Farmington Ave
Treva is arguably the best Italian place in West Hartford. It is a very cozy, upscale restaurant offering a range of classic Italian dishes like homemade pastas, risottos, and fresh seafood. It’s been around for a while now and most known for its intimate atmosphere, perfect for date nights or special occasions. I’ve personally taken my wife there on many many dates!
Barcelona
Cuisine: Spanish, Tapas
Address: 971 Farmington Ave
Barcelona Wine Bar is the quintessential small plate restaurant. My personal favorites on the menu include the Spanish tortilla and patatas bravas. Their outdoor seating area is intimate, not on the street like at so many other downtown West Hartford restaurants, so it’s usually more quiet. This is my go-to spot for a light dinner with a glass of tempranillo.
Max's Oyster Bar
Cuisine: Seafood
Address: 964 Farmington Ave
Known for: Max's offers fresh seafood with a focus on oysters, lobster rolls, and fish dishes. Their seafood is usually flown in daily for maximum freshness, and they have the best raw bar in the area, no doubt. Upscale and a bit pricey, but pretty laid-back atmosphere. Perfect for special occasions or just a night out with a great seafood meal.

Zohara Mediterranean Kitchen
Cuisine: Mediterranean, Middle Eastern
Address: 991 Farmington Ave
Zohara has flavorful Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes, such as falafel, hummus, and shawarma meats. A popular spot right in downtown West Hartford for both lunch and dinner, especially for those seeking a vegetarian or vegan-friendly menu.
Artisan
Cuisine: New England-inspired, American
Address: 1 Memorial Rd
Artisan specializes in modern American cuisine with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The menu includes seasonal dishes, seafood, and meats, and the restaurant offers unique cocktails and craft beer. Located in the Delamar Hotel, the restaurant offers a stylish, chic dining environment, ideal for both business lunches and special celebrations. The brunch menu is especially great!
Le Mazet
Cuisine: Elevated French Bistro
Address: 975 Farmington Ave
La Mazet is my go-to place for outdoor dining in summer in West Hartford. This bistro blends classic seasonal French dishes with a more experimental menu, perfect for everyone. The atmosphere and service is some of the best in New England for sure!
