How much does a wedding officiant cost in Iceland?
Eloping in Iceland followed by a honeymoon is on the bucket list of many couples. The volcanic landscape is like no other country on earth. It is sublime, vast, and at times, a bit scary. That’s what makes it so great for photography and elopements.
One of the most frequent questions I get as someone who photographs weddings and elopements in Iceland is “why is everything so expensive?”
It’s mainly because almost everything has to be imported, and it’s out of the way. Iceland is tucked away far up in the North Atlantic. Gas, for example, is around 4 or 5 times as expensive as in the United States!
But when you compare elopements in Iceland to weddings in the US, the story is a bit different. A 7-day elopement and honeymoon in Iceland is about half the price of a US-based wedding.

All that to set up for this question—“how much does a wedding officiant cost in Iceland?”
How much is an officiant in Iceland?
I looked at prices at the beginning of 2024 and the prices have gone up a bit. An officiant in Iceland costs about $475-$700 for a ceremony in or near Reykjavik. Prices go up after that based on distance from the capital.
This makes sense when you take into account that gas is about $9 per gallon in Iceland. Doing business in Iceland is just more expensive which reflects in the prices for wedding and elopement services.
