A Retro and Disco Inspired Wedding at the Venue at Oakdale

Couple kisses at the end of their wedding day.

Dylan and Kaylie’s Mirrorball Wedding

I am going to remember this beautiful day for a long time! Dylan and Kaylie reached out with just a few months before their summer wedding. Luckily, I was completely available on their day and ready to travel from my base in Northwest Arkansas to Little Rock.

Dylan and Kaylie described what they were planning and I just knew this was going to be and incredibly photogenic wedding with elaborate florals, disco balls, music at the forefront, and the stylish Venue at Oakdale. I knew immediately I wanted a retro look and found inspiration from 70’s and 80’s album covers. I decided to bring out my star filter which is the actual filter photographers used to achieve this look before photoshop. It just looks better when done in-camera!

We immediately scheduled an engagement shoot at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, during golden hour. They spent the majority of that hour laughing, dancing, and moving through the beautiful spaces around the museum.

Wedding Photos

I got up early and drove from Fayetteville to Little Rock. I began photographing the interiors and decorations, then captured Kaylie, her bridesmaids, and her mom. Dylan was next with his groomsmen and dad. A first-look session followed right below the impressive hanging florals and some sweet shots with family and friends.

The Wedding Ceremony

Let’s talk a bit about the chapel at the Venue at Oakdale. It is a beautiful modern design, with a contrasty black and white color palette, and natural light that baths the chapel softly. The windows are big enough to allow light inside but not so big that the light becomes overpowering. Some glass chapels have too big windows, and backlighting becomes a problem, but not here.

The greenery in the back provided an excellent splash of color along with the floral arrangements inside the chapel. The ceremony was sweet and full of intimate moments between Dylan and Kaylie. I noticed so many gestures of love during the ceremony and I am happy to have been able to capture them. These tiny little moments between guests, hands holding, arms around shoulders, and little cheek kisses truly show much love was in that chapel.

The Reception

After the introductions, speeches, and dances, the party really kicked off. Endless colored lights, sparkles and a grand exit send off with bubbles flying everywhere. Congratulations again on your beautiful day, Dylan and Kaylie!
